She Devil

“As in super, mega bad” is how Jean Garcia describes her character in GMA’s newest primetime series, intriguingly entitled La Vendetta. Just when you thought her evil streak couldn't get any more devilish, she surprises us with more. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio and GMA Network. We have seen her do the most awful things imaginable in her past television series, most recently in the hit drama Impostora. But Jean Garcia seems bent on proving that evil knows no bounds as she introduces her new character in La Vendetta. “La Vendetta is rivalry eh. Rivalry, blood, kapatid or kadugo mo, di ba? It’s revenge!” Meet Amanda Cardinale, the eldest among the Cardinale sisters played by the beautifully wicked Jean Garcia. “I’m bad here, as in super mega bad” she states with an emphatic shake of her elegantly styled hair. But she explains, “Pero may reason siya! All because she’s longing for (the) love of her father. Kasi parang siya iyong least favorite. Iyong hindi siya masyadong pinapansin.” Jean believes though that there is good in everyone, even in the most evil of characters, real or imagined. “She’s the one taking good care of the family. Parang siya iyong nag-aasikaso nung negosyo and everything. So may tampo siya sa family kasi siya nga iyong least favorite nung father.” How does Amanda differ from Betty, the witch which also made Sunshine Dizon’s world in Impostora a seemingly realistic hell. Even up to now, Sunshine still lists the scene where Jean traps her in a coffin as the most evil thing that has ever been done to her, onscreen at least. Check out this article for more of Sunshine’s Impostora experience! “Kung sa Impostora ay medyo funny, may humor pa eh. Medyo komidyante pa. Nakakatawa naman kahit papaano si Betty ‘di ba?” she answers with a very sweet, ehem, angelic smile. Pretty Evil Badness, in Jean’s case, comes in such a pretty package, which is why no matter how dark her character may seem, she still gets all the hot guys. In La Vendetta, she gets to work with Polo Ravales, Wendell Ramos and Luis Alandy. Lucky lady! She can not help but comment, “Lahat sila younger sa akin hindi ko nga alam kung bakit!” This led to another interesting question. What is it like working with your Impostora castmates once again? “Actually, pati iyong production (crew) is the same. Same staff, so excited kasi iba na namang istorya tapos iba rin ang mga director namin ngayon.” She is talking about Directors Gil Tejada Jr. and Lore Reyes who have to face the challenging task of ensuring that the audience appreciates the new suspense drama format of this particular series. With all these elements at play, it is no wonder that Jean is excited and proud of her latest project. “This is the first sa Philippine television, parang suspense-thriller-drama siya. So sana tanggapin ng tao. So, abangan niyo ha!” La Vendetta airs weeknights on GMA’s top-rated primetime Telebabad block.
