EXCLUSIVE: PH bet Camille Hirro crowned as Miss Global 1st Runner-up

By BEA RODRIGUEZ

Hooray, another queen was hailed from the tropics!

Philippines representative Camille “CJ” Hirro was crowned as this year’s Miss Global 1st Runner-up next to Miss Ecuador Angela Bonilla who emerged as winner.

Call it home court advantage, but this 5’6” ghost writer slayed the stage of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City with her wits, beauty, and confidence last Saturday, September 24.

It’s unlikely for a beauty titleholder to have short hair, but CJ nailed the look, and it’s a first for our country, she told GMANetwork.com in an exclusive interview. “There were a lot of people saying [I’m] not queenly, [but] I’m not here to be the queen [they] want me to be. This pageant is all about women empowerment.”

Before she won the pageant, the University of the Philippines Broadcast Communication graduate stressed, “Education and reputation – those are the only two things I had for me to get to where I am now.”

Right now, she’s ready to take on bigger roles in our society, “If you have a crown on your head and you have a title with you, it gives you authority to talk about something. It makes you credible then people start listening to you, and institution leaders start working with you.”

The 28-year-old Pampangeña plans to focus on our country’s tourism, “I want to have a more holistic approach when it comes to Tourism, and that’s [going to] be three aspects of it.”

“First would be, the people – you have to take care of [them, and] you have to invest in them. Second, we want to be part of whatever infrastructure projects the government will be doing. Lastly, we want to work on the environment [and its resources]. It has to be sustained for future generations,” she concluded.
