Text and photos by Loretta G. Ramirez. The Reason Yes, he is acting once again! But the biggest question is why? He has handled successful shows and has proven what he is worth as a director so what compelled Zoren to move back to the other side of the camera? “Napagod na rin ako kakadirect e, (laughs) kaya sabi ko, mag a-artista muna ako,” confesses Zoren. He divulges that he missed acting and has somehow found the lure of being in front of the cameras too tempting to pass up. But admittedly, he acknowledges the fact that he has somehow forgotten what it means to be a star by working behind the cameras. "You know, minsan pag hindi ka na uma-acting, sometimes pinababayaan mo 'yung katawan mo, actually kaya nga ako tumataba! Kasi I don’t have to face the cameras anymore. Kaya parang 'di mo na kailangang na magpa-facial, hind ka na magpapagupit. I really gained weight nung nag di-direct ako,” explains Zoren. Now, this former matinee idol is working hard to be in shape again and recapture his star status. Being disciplined and knowing what is expected of him as an actor certainly helps him in his return to acting. His insight as a director is definitely an edge when it comes to portraying his role. Zoren’s Zecrets “I lost 10 pounds already!” Zoren proudly declares, when we asked him how he is preparing for his role in Kamandag. He admits that he is on a diet and goes to the gym regularly. But he adds that he also plays tennis to complement his regimen. “I play tennis a lot. Marami akong kalaro at saka tine-train ko 'yung kambal eh. Kaya 'yung dalawang 'yung, you had better watch out. ‘Yun 'yung mag cha-champion sa Pilipinas!” says the proud father of Carmina Villaroel’s twins. Known for doing his own stunts, Zoren works hard to be fit again and regain his vigor and strength. “I have to train myself again. Nanibago ako in a sense na 'yung mga gusto kong gawin parang I need stretching pa. Unlike nung mas bata ka kahit walang stretching sige, tirahin na natin. Ngayon I really need to stretch, so yun 'yung pinaghahandaan ko. And if ever I need to do some stunts, I’d rather do it myself. “ He admits that it is not easy to make a comeback in acting, but he is definitely up to the challenge. What’s more he promises not to disappoint his fans who have been waiting for his return in front of the cameras. Truly, whatever Zoren decides to do with his career, be it directing or acting, expect someone who will not be contented with a mediocre performance, and that is Zoren’s true secret!
