A Year of Laughter

Unrivaled sitcom Bahay Mo Ba 'To will be celebrating its first year on air with a month-long series of super special episodes this September. The family comedy has remained unbeaten in the ratings game since it piloted last year.

The hilarious comedy which stars Tessie Tomas and Ronaldo Valdez as conflicting siblings Baby Mulingtapang-Benoit and Nene Mulingtapang. The two must learn to share a house that has been left to them by their deceased parents. But since the two have never been known to see eye to eye on anything, the ancestral house is literally divided into two by a wall divider, with one side of the house painted a different color from the other end.

Throw in their colorful family members and quirky neighbors and what you have is the winning formula for a hit series. For example, there is Keempee De Leon's portrayal of the very gay character Harold. Keempee made waves with his challenging first gay role for television. His convincing portrayal of Harold became one of the most hilarious aspects of the sitcom and made his character a household name. Playing against him is the sexy Francine Prieto as “Jingle,” a ditz who refuses to believe that Harold will not fall in love with her. This “love-hate relationship” between the two characters is another one of the sitcom’s bestselling points as fans tune in week after week to watch the two trade barbs.

Bahay Mo Ba ‘To? had a successful first year because it not only touches on the familiar aspect of Filipino extended families, making it a show everyone can relate to. The characters and their relationships with each other have all become endeared to the viewing public, elevating BMBT from being just a typical sitcom to a show close to the Filipino’s sensibility. From feuding siblings Baby and Nene; to odd couple Harold and Jingle; the hilarious husband-and-wife tandems of Manny Boy (Wendell Ramos) and Kelly (Gladys Reyes), and Jonathan Benoit (Mike Pekto) and Jessica (Sherilyn Reyes); Baby’s mall-rat daughter Dorothy Benoit (Sunshine Dizon); and the comical roles of Dino Guevarra, Tiya Pusit, Starstruck Kids Gabriel and Bea, and Carlito Campos as Mang Enriquez have contributed to making BMBT the sitcom Filipinos love to come home to for a year now.

As Francine Prieto said during a recent press conference "It feels like I am working with my family because we are all so close now. Hindi siya parang trabaho kasi kasundo at mahal mo mga ka-trabaho mo." Many of the cast members were quick to reitirate what Francine had said.

Bahay Mo Ba ‘To will begin its anniversary month with an “Under the Sea” episode on September 6, with special guests Michael V and April Tolentino. The sitcom will bring viewers to a whole new world “underwater,” featuring colorful sets and costumes. As an added plus, Bitoy will be playing a bone-tickling role as a lame mermaid.

And then on September 13, fans of the Harold (Keempee de Leon) and Jingle (Francine Prieto) “love team” will have a blast in this “Kasal-Kasalan” episode, where the fashionista Harold accidentally becomes Jingle’s groom for a shoot. Scenes portraying a drunken Harold suddenly professing his love for the sexy, dim-witted Jingle is surely going to bring about laughs. Also guesting in this rib-tickling, must-see episode are Direk Soxie Topacio, Anna Leah Javier, and KiliTV Babe Mischka.

More exciting episodes are also lined up for the viewers on September 20 and 27, to complete Bahay Mo Ba ‘To’s month-long anniversary extravaganza!
