MUST-READ: GMA is the true number one TV station; AGB Nielsen is the more trusted ratings provider
Hanggang ngayon ay wala pa ring linaw kung sino ba sa GMA Network, Inc. at ABS-CBN ang nangungunang TV station. Pareho kasi ang claim ng dalawang giant broadcasting networks na sila ang number one.
Para sa mga hindi nakakaalam, magkaiba ang ratings provider ng dalawa - AGB Nielsen ang may hawak sa GMA 7 at Kantar Media naman ang ABS-CBN.
Sa ginanap na press conference ng GMA Entertainment TV Drama Group kanina, January 16, sinagot na nina Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Rasonable at Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Communications Angela Javier Cruz ang malaking katanungan tungkol sa isyu.

Inumpisahan ni Rasonable ang pagkumpara sa magkaibang ratings provider. "Ang AGB Nielsen is the more popular and widely used ratings provider in the industry. Pati sa trade, 'yon talaga ang ginagamit. 'Yung Kantar, it [has] less subscribers. AGB Nielsen... is used even by the people from the advertising industry," paliwanag niya.
Di hamak na mas malaki ang lamang ng GMA 7 sa Urban Luzon ratings at mataas na porsiyento ng National Urban Philippines ratings ay galing dito. "It's 77 percent. So it's like saying 77 percent of the [urban] TV audience is watching GMA. Well kumbaga, kung number one ka sa nationwide, mabigat 'yung weight ng 77 percent," saad ni Rasonable
Dagdag ni Cruz, "Urban Luzon comprises already a 77 percent of the total viewing public ng buong Pilipinas. So lahat ng nanonood, 77 percent [ay] nasa Urban Luzon."
Bukod pa rito, nilinaw rin ni Cruz na mas maraming panel homes ang hawak ng AGB Nielsen. Aniya, "Kapag kinombayn mo 'yung urban at saka rural na panel na sine-survey, mas lamang ng 900 panel homes ang sine-survey ng AGB Nielsen kaysa sa Kantar."
Samantala, base naman sa National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) data, pito sa sampung programa sa bansa ay mula sa GMA.
