Playlist feature: Nar Cabico hopes to leave behind a legacy of remarkable work
Music is literally Nar Cabico’s life.
“Nung college ako, it fed me. Working student, parang 16 [years old] ako nung umiikot ako sa Malate with a guitar. That’s how I survived college, hanggang nag-OFW ako [as] musikero din… So talagang it’s been my life,” he said.
Because of the gift of musicality he has received and endeavored to nurture throughout the years, he has committed to giving nothing less than his best in every song he writes and performance he gives.
“Gusto ko 'yung music ko would tell stories that are relatable to every human being… Naririnig [ko] 'yung mga generation before us na ‘Mas maganda 'yung music nung time namin.’ May ganun sila eh. So gusto ko, somehow, gumawa ng body of work that could also represent our generation of songwriters,” he added.
While he’s at it, he wants to be unique and to work towards giving a positive impact to his listeners.
“Meron ako na-i-imagine na what if areglo ng DJ 'yung tugtog pero jazz song. Isipin mo Moon River pero David Guetta, parang ganun. Nag-e-explore ako ng ganyan. Gusto ko maging fierce, gusto ko maging Beyoncé… Kapag na-tegi ako, sana maging remarkable ['yung maiwan kong body of work]. And I will try my best to put it out there,” he noted.
No matter what happens, Nar promises to stick to his individuality and to the type of artistry that he envisions.
“I’m not after making a hit. Of course, gusto kong lumaki 'yung reach ko as a songwriter, as a performer. Gusto ko ngang mag-create ng Nar Cabico experience… It’s very competitive and I think the only way that you would stand out is to be unique. Pinapangalagaan ko 'yung uniqueness ko at sincerity ko sa craft… Hindi ako echosera,” he quipped.
