When Evil Looks This Good

Amanda Cardinale may be the devil incarnate but she sure has an appeal that her bad deeds can not dispel. Proof is in her amazing powers of persuasion, usually used on the hapless men of La Vendetta. Elegant with an underlying hotness is probably the best way to describe how the main antagonist in La Vendetta projects herself. Jean Garcia know hows to play that combination just perfectly. “Inaral namin kung anong look and then pati siyempre iyong pagiging salbahe ko dito, ibang-iba nanaman. Dapat hindi puwede iyong pareho ni Betty.” Betty was Jean’s character in the hit show, Impostora. She recalls her first few shows, “Siyempre dapat maiba siya sa look nung [sa] dati- actually fantasy kasi naman ang Atlantika at Majika ‘di ba?” Jean vs Amanda The look for a character, according to the critically acclaimed actress, is not just something that she comes up with on her own. It is a collaboration of insights from the writers, the director and the actor. “Kasi siyempre discretion pa rin ng director eh kung ano iyong gusto niyang klase ng pagiging kontrabida ko ‘di ba? Hindi naman pwedeng ako lang ang magdecide for myself eh.” She says and explains that it is never that simple to build an image for a new character, especially since La Vendetta is the first of its kind in Philippine television. Jean herself has very simple but stylish taste in clothes and accessories. In fact, she prefers buying watches instead of jewelry. She loves subdued colors when it comes to her clothes and shoes. Amanda, she describes, is more glamorous compared to the real Jean Garcia and more daring compared to her earlier roles. “Nung nakita ko iyong mga outfits ‘tsaka iyong look na gusto nila sa akin, kakaiba siya, pati colors. Medyo mas daring, tsaka dapat mas younger looking.” She answers this with an angelic smile. This only goes to show that for the beautiful Jean Garcia, achieving any look is not difficult at all.
