MUST-READ: Erwan Heussaff translates the answer of Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere

By CHERRY SUN

Following the victory of France’s Iris Mittenaere as Miss Universe 2016, her answer in the pageant’s final question-and-answer (Q&A) portion has also become the talk of the town. Did her interpreter accurately translate Iris’s winning answer?

Solenn Heussaff earlier pointed out that the newly-crowned beauty was referring to her not passing medical school instead of not qualifying for a casting call.

Her brother and fellow celebrity Erwan Heussaff also took it upon himself to provide an English translation of Iris’s answer.

He began, saying, “since everyone is asking for the translation.”

The English interpretation reads, “I have failed several times in my life. I thought I had failed my first year in medical school because my name wasn’t on the passing list. So, the very same day I went to buy a new set of medical books to keep on studying. I think when you fail, you need to stand up and keep going, we are all able to do so. If I don’t win tonight, I will still keep on smiling tomorrow because I am proud to be part of the 3 finalist. I’ve learnt a lot from my failures and happily, I did end up passing my first year of medical school.”

While Erwan didn’t mention in another post where he got the information, he noted that the error in translation was because Iris’s interpreter doesn’t speak French.
