GMA is the first free TV network in the Philippines to offer closed captioning

By Marah Ruiz

GMA Network distinguishes itself from its competitors once again as it is the first to offer closed captioning on Philippine free TV.

With closed captioning, viewers will be able to read a text transcription of the movie's dialogue and other key non-speech elements (music, effects, etc) at the bottom of their screens. This feature is especially beneficial to those who are deaf or who are hard of hearing.

The said service is also in compliance to Republic Act No. 10905 which requires "all franchise holders or operators of television programs to broadcast or present their programs with closed caption option..."

First to comply to this, GMA already tried a test broadcast with closed captioning last September 28 for the movie Mission Impossible which aired under the Kapuso Movie Festival block.

GMA is expecting to roll out closed captioning for some GMA and GMA News TV programs this October.
