MUST-READ: Atom Araullo reveals reason for leaving the Kapamilya network

By Bea Rodriguez

Many were surprised with Atom Araullo’s sudden departure from ABS-CBN, while even more were excited about his homecoming to GMA Network.

In a press conference for his new documentary last October 6, the celebrated journalist who recently joined GMA’s News and Public Affairs revealed his reason for leaving the rival network.

“Mahabang talakayan iyon. Sa simula, naging transparent at naging bukas naman  ako sa mga nangyayari  at  sa bagong opportunities na dumarating. Ang mahalaga, hindi nalilimutan na tumanaw ng utang na loob at maging bukas at maliwanag sa iyong mga gustong mangyari at iyong mga intentions,” the 34-year-old broadcast journalist told the media.

What transpired in the discussion is the result of Atom’s transfer to the Kapuso network, “Kung hindi nag-work out ‘yung usapan, wala namang kailangan malungkot o magalit doon. It’s just a fact of life that sometimes, there are differences in our approach and in our priorities so eventually, we made a mutual decision na this was the best.”

The TV reporter clarified that there is no bad blood between him and his former network of 15 years, “If you’re asking kung nagkaroon ng away o nagkaroon ng bitterness, wala naman.”

Atom’s transfer was then revealed via GMA’s flagship news program 24 Oras. He was also featured in an episode of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.

He is producing his first documentary in GMA Network, Philippine Seas, and is set to be the fifth host of the award-winning documentary program, i-Witness.
