The Dramatic Tuesday Vargas

Music and comedy are the first two things that come to mind when one thinks of Tuesday Vargas. So when an offer came to give Tuesday a challenging new role that would take her out of her safe zone, the singer-comedienne quickly took the opportunity. Text and Photos by Jason John S. Lim. Tuesday Vargas jokes that she found out she was part of Kaputol ng Isang Awit through a text message that said, 'Uy, punta ka dito. May dinner, chenes.' “Tapos, story con na pala!” Tuesday laughs, “hindi, joke lang!” This is the reason why Tuesday is typecast as comedic characters. But for this new show, she faces a sort-of new challenge in her acting career. Why sort-of? Tuesday shares that she has already had her first taste of drama with last year’s Mga Mata ni Anghelita. “‘Yung mga eksena namin ni Isabel Oli sa Anghelita, na-pull off naman successfully. So I hope to do the same here sa Kaputol ng Isang Awit.” And this time, the story of Kaputol ng Isang Awit resonates more with Tuesday’s own life story -- much more than Anghelita’s did. “Kasi kasama siya sa interests ko, ‘yung topic ng buong serye: ‘yung music.” Tuesday continues, “so kahit papaano, mabibigyan ko ng justification ‘yung character ko.” She also says that she’s excited to get to play someone from the lower class again, after quite a long time. “Napaka-challenging ng ganoon!” Of course, comedy can’t be taken out of any character that has anything to do with Tuesday, but this time, it’ll be more toned down. And Tuesday is happy that people will see her in a different light. “Kasi maraming facets sa pagiging performer ko na hindi pa nakikita ng mga tao,” she explains. Tuesday adds that she hopes she does the role justice, “kung bibigyan ako ng mga eksenang mabigat.
