The Next Drama Princess

“Ayoko pang maniwala [noon] until marinig ko sa kanila na ‘Glaiza de Castro as Sarah,’ kasi ayokong mag-expect,” shares an awed Glaiza to iGMA after the story conference of GMA’s newest afternoon drama series, Kaputol ng Isang Awit. Lim A few months after the end of the teen-oriented show, Boys Nxt Door, Glaiza takes on her first big drama role as she reprises the Mega Star Sharon Cuenta’s role, Sarah, in the movie-turned-afternoon-soap. Excited, surprised, and pressured all at the same time, the young star says she is very eager to take on the challenge since “hindi mo rin malalaman na kakayanin mo ‘yung isang bagay until ginagawa mo.” “In the process of playing characters, you’ll find out na, ‘Wow, pwede ko palang gawin ‘yung mga ganung bagay.’ So parang for me, it’s a different journey. I’m really looking forward to play Sarah,” Glaiza says. Motivated Glaiza is also aware of the expectations people have for her in this soap. However, despite the pressures that come with reprising a role previously portrayed by a legendary artist, she says she is thrilled to play Sarah because she is one of the Mega Star’s many fans. “Isa siya sa mga tinitingala kong artista,” she confesses. “I mean, sino ba naman ang hindi?” The young actress adds too, that she is even more motivated to give justice to the role because she has a sister who idolizes Sharon more than she does: “I have a sister who’s really a fan of the Mega Star. So parang kapag hindi n’ya nagustuhan 'yung performance ko, what more kapag makakaharap ko 'yung iba pang fans niya 'di ba? I don’t wanna disappoint them. Saka it’s a great honor na i-play mo ‘yung character, kahit isa lang sa mga nagampanan na niya.” Glaiza also discloses that Sarah’s musicality influences her to look forward to the role more. “I can relate [to her]. I find myself doon sa character ni Sarah kasi musically-driven ako eh, [kaya] na-e-excite talaga akong gawin sya,” she says. Responsibilities As the Kapuso network grooms Glaiza to be its next drama princess, the teen actress keeps in mind the responsibilities that go with it. “People are expecting from me, expecting much. So I’ll do my best talaga para hindi sila mapahiya,” she promises. This is also why, as early as now, she busies herself looking for information about the show and getting fit for the role. “Nagse-search ako sa Internet [nung] storyline, tapos meron akong nakitang clip dun. Tapos I’m gonna be watching the film. [Hinahanap ko] kung ano ‘yung pwede kong i-imbibe sa mga nagawa ni Sharon sa pelikulang ‘yun,” she relates. “And ‘yun, voice lessons!” Glaiza swears she will give the viewers a great afternoon treat. “Ang dami pa nilang pwedeng makita [sa’kin] na hindi pa nila nakikita noon.
