Kapuso stars celebrate Panagbenga Festival this weekend

This weekend, GMA Network again takes part in Baguio City’s famous flower festival—the Panagbenga—this time with Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid joining the casts of hit teleseryes Sherlock Jr., and The Stepdaughters together with the upcoming afternoon soap Contessa.

Through GMA Regional TV, the Kapuso Network brings to the City of Pines on February 24 (Saturday) the second public auditions for the newest singing competition, The Clash.

The Clash is set to feature hopefuls who will compete against each other to be the country’s next solo singing superstar. Just last week, hundreds of hopefuls invaded the program’s Cebu-leg auditions where Regine was also present.

The Baguio-leg of the auditions, which will be held at the Sunshine Park, will accommodate aspirants beginning 10 a.m. The competition welcomes all male and female Filipinos, amateur and professional, 16-years-old and above. Applicants need to bring the original and photocopy of their birth certificate and two recent photos (one 2x2 and one full body shot). They also need to prepare at least two songs (English and Filipino) for the audition with minus-1 audio or to be performed with musical instruments.

And as part of the Network’s treat to those in Baguio City, GMA Regional TV has organized a ‘Kapuso Meet and Greet’ with Regine at 4 pm in the same area.

Meanwhile, bannering the Kapuso Float during the much-awaited Panagbenga Float Parade on Sunday (February 25), are stars from three of GMA Network’s television offerings—Sherlock Jr., The Stepdaughters, and Contessa.

Kapuso actor and Sherlock Jr. himself Ruru Madrid will lead the celebration at 7 am. He will be joined by his co-star Matt Evans.

Real life couple Megan Young and Mikael Daez, who headline the latest Afternoon Prime offering The Stepdaughters, will bring kilig to the event as well when they board the Kapuso Float.

Joining them as well are the stars of the upcoming Afternoon Prime program Contessa—multi-talented actress Glaiza de Castro, who will play Contessa in the series, and her leading man, Jak Roberto.

GMA North Central Luzon will have a live coverage of the Panagbenga Float Parade beginning 7 a.m. The ‘Kapuso sa Panagbenga: The Balitang Amianan Special Live Coverage’ will be hosted by Balitang Amianan’s  CJ Torida, Joanne Ponsoy, and Faye Centeno together with Balitang Amianan correspondents Alfie Tulagan, Russel Simorio, and Kim Banderlipe.

In the afternoon, the stars of the three programs will have a Kapuso Fiesta in Sunshine Park. The Stepdaughters and Sirkus star Sef Cadayona will host the event at 11 am.

“These Kapuso events are our way of giving-back to our loyal viewers,” says GMA Regional VP and Head Oliver Amoroso. “If The Clash’s Cebu-leg audition is any indication, we have a lot of great singers in our country. It’s just a matter of time for them to be discovered. We are happy that we are the ones discovering them though The Clash. On the same manner, we are proud to bring some of our Kapuso stars to Baguio to celebrate the Panagbenga Festival this year. We are very grateful for the support of our Kapuso viewers in the regions. They are the reason why we are here.  We hope they continue to keep us number one nationwide,” he ends.
