The Fun Behind the Drama

‘Kaputol ng Isang Awit’ continues to astound viewers with its fast-paced storytelling, amazing chemistry between the cast, and a wonderful director. Behind the scenes, the actors are also celebrating the same things! Text and Photos by Jason John S. Lim. An enthralling story. Arsenio has already found Vina under Julio’s care, and Sarah is already about to discover who her real father is. And as viewers tune in to the exciting twists and turns of Kaputol ng Isang Awit, the actors are getting excited to find out what happens next as well! Marky Cielo points out the biggest problem a movie-serialization always faces: how do you make it run longer? “Kasi maganda na ‘yung original nito,” he adds, a sentiment he shares with co-star Glaiza de Castro. “Nakakatuwa siya kasi ‘yung basic plot niya, maganda na.” Glaiza then follows up that the way the story was written now, there’s always something to learn in every episode. Making it “kapanapanabik.” It seems that the writers and the directors have found the right formula because even the cast looks forward to getting to read the scripts. Lovi Poe says she likes the show a lot “kasi mabilis siya.” But aside from that, the young actress also says that she likes that the show doesn’t just center on hers and Glaiza’s characters. “Hindi lang sa amin tumatakbo [ang istorya].” And Marky admits that though he doesn’t get to watch the show, he reads up on everything that has and will happen in the show. What will happen in the future of the show? “Everything!” Lovi teases that big things will happen in the love-triangle between her character Joanna, Eric (played by Marky) and Sarah (played by Glaiza). Marky adds that his character will continue doling out personal sacrifices. “Makakatulong si Joana sa love life,” as viewers are now seeing on their screens. But Marky says that his character’s journey is about to “maliligaw ng konti.” Which Glaiza follows with that more will happen in the show, “pagdurusa, puzzles,” before ending with another teaser, “marami pang kikilalanin.” Working relationships. Although Marky has worked with both Lovi and Glaiza in previous occasions, Kaputol ng Isang Awit is still the first time most of the cast got to work together—even real-life almost-couple Lovi and Jolo Revilla! Lovi confesses that working with Jolo is something else, but she’s happy to report that instead of getting tired of each other from being with each other constantly, “lalong nag-bond kami.” In fact, Lovi says that she’s happy with getting to work with Jolo even though “it was biglaan.” She’s also happy to be working with Marky again, and this time around, they’re playing “mas mature na roles.” Marky on the other hand, admits that he was conscious at first, having to work with big-named actors like Leo Martinez, Snooky Serna, Tuesday Vargas and Gary Estrada. (He has worked with Tirso Cruz III and Isabel Granada in Zaido.) But he adds that it was before he had a chance to get to know them and work with them. And Glaiza can’t say anything bad about her co-workers! “Sobrang saya! “Kahit drama, sarap ng katrabaho.” Glaiza points out that getting to work with the show’s strong cast takes away some of the pressure of leading a soap. “Responsibility, kumokonti.” She even adds that there are no real serious times on the set because as soon as the cameras stop rolling, the laughter starts. “Stand-up comedians [ang mga kasama namin]!” To which Marky seconds, “Ngayong lang [ako naka-experience] ng masaya sa drama. Puro biruan.” Catch Kaputol ng Isang Awit every weekday afternoon, part of GMA-7’s Dramarama sa Hapon programming block after Maging Akin Ka Lamang.
