Jade’s Song Continues

The last time Jade Lopez was seen on the small screen, she was the secretary who made switching babies look easy back in ‘Princess Charming’. Now, she’s back and ready to embrace fame with ‘Kaputol ng Isang Awit’. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Interview by Jessa Ericka C. Bien. Photos by Xylen Geecel D. Alamo-Punelas If you were one of those wondering where Jade Lopez has been all this time, the young actress reveals that she actually put her showbiz career on hold after her last show, Princess Charming. “Hindi ako nag renew ng contract ko with Artist Center because nag concentrate ako with my studies.” Jade is one of the first graduates of the StarStruck academy, the talent search that brought about the likes of Jennylyn Mercado, LJ Reyes, Marky Cielo and Aljur Abrenica. And since being a part of that show, Jade has undertaken many roles — most of which fall under either the antagonist category, or the morally gray ones. “Ako naman kasi, kahit anong role happy ako eh,” the StarStruck alumnus begins. Jade lists down the roles she has played, starting with a martyr secretary to a role where she had to play a not-so-bright character. “Basta ako, gusto ko talaga i-explore lahat. Kaya kung anong ibigay sa akin, okay lang. Challenge ‘yan eh.” But as much as possible, Jade prefers keeping things real: in drama. An incoming Junior in BS Psychology at one of the country’s finest schools, Jade currently juggles having to go to school with meeting her showbiz appointments. But the young actress is okay with having to attend to both of her worlds. “Masaya! kasi parang marami kang privileges. “Kasi pag nakilala ka na ng Prof, okay lang minsan na mag absent ka,” she says with a giggle. “Nagiging friendly sila sa’yo lahat. So hindi ka nagiging outcast.” Jade does admit to missing the limelight during the times she doesn’t have a lot of showbiz engagements. “Kasi ‘di ba? Sobrang love ko talaga ‘yung acting. Kaya na-miss ko talaga ‘yung taping.” And with being included in Kaputol ng Isang Awit, Jade is ecstatic that she’s about to continue with her dream. Though, the actress admits to feeling some nervousness during her first taping with the show, “parang naninibago ako. Feeling ko, nag-start uli ako, simula from scratch.” “[Pero] nung second taping, okay na naman.” Jade finishes with a smile. She also adds that she’s grateful for a very hands-on director like Mike Tuviera who doesn’t hesitate to praise them whenever they do good, as well as talk to them when he doesn’t like something they’ve done. “Last time, natuwa nga ako sa kanya. Kasi sabi niya, gusto daw niya ‘yung atake ko sa character.” And these comments, Jade confesses, is what makes her more comfortable at the set of their show. “Kasi open silang lahat eh.” Support Jade in her latest role as Daniela, in Kaputol ng Isang Awit! “Heto na ‘yung show ko after ko mag lay-low sa showbiz, so sana suportahan niyo ang Kaputol Ng isang Awit every Monday to Friday 3:30 pm.” Kaputol ng Isang Awit continues every weekday afternoon, after Magdusa Ka.
