EXCLUSIVE: Eugene Domingo weighs in on suicide

By Cherry Sun

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Eugene Domingo shared her thoughts about suicide.

Eugene recently returned to theater via PETA’s adaptation of the Pulitzer award-winning drama ‘Night, Mother' which boldly tackled mental health and suicide. According to the Celebrity Bluff and Dear Uge host, the play has opened discussions about the said sensitive matters.

She said, “‘Yun ang naging tema ng ‘Night, Mother,' at nagkaroon kami dyan ng talk back. Hindi naman ‘yung nagpalabas lang kami para may shock value. Pinag-usapan namin at lumabas nga sa pinag-usapan ‘yung mga kabataang nanood ay maraming opinyon tungkol sa halaga ng buhay, ng pag-intindi sa kanila, ng tingin nila sa importance ng, you know, trying to survive everyday. So natuwa kami na we had given them a chance, we gave them a chance na ma-express ‘yung kung papaano binu-view ng millennials ‘yung importance ng surviving nila everyday.”

Following the unfortunate demise of American celebrities, Eugene also took the opportunity to share words of encouragement to anyone who might be going through rough times. While she agreed that communication and the chance of  being heard may help in dealing with life’s difficulties, she also emphasized about having faith.

She stated, “Para sa akin talaga, the most important thing is you have to have faith. You have to have faith. Kung tayo ay may paniniwala – wag na natin kwestyunin kung ano ba ‘yung pinaniniwalaan mo – as long as you have faith sa sarili natin, sa mga kaibigan natin, sa minamahal natin, sa plano natin, we will survive everyday. Don’t lose your faith, and most of all, if you have not tried yet, prayer is very strong.”

She further added, “Hindi ko sinasabing magdasal kayo sa ganitong Diyos, sa ganitong Diyos, sa ganitong Diyos. You have to pray, you just have to try. Pray. Maybe when you pray, you talk to yourself, you talk to the sky. Just pray. One sentence, kahit hindi naman kailangan na parang na-memorize, just coming from your heart. It will mean a lot. Faith is very important. And try to avoid alcohol, please.”
