Therese Malvar makes history at 2018 Cinemalaya

At the young age of 17, Therese Malvar has already made history in Philippine Cinema.

An emotional Therese emerged on stage at the 2018 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival award's night, after she was named as the winner of the Best Supporting Actress award.

Therese is the first actress to compete with herself in an acting category. The double win of Therese for the films Distance and School Service was given on August 12, 2018 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

With a trembling voice, Therese jested, “Noong sinabi pong tie akala ko dalawang tao, kalaban ko pala sarili ko. Thank you so much Cinemalaya for being our wings to soar higher, to reach even bigger audiences.”

The Kapuso child actress expressed her gratitude to the Lord and left inspiring words for everyone in the film industry. “Thank you, Lord. I did not expect this… May our films be a reminder to always dream big.”

Prior to her historical win in Cinemalaya, Therese also earned various awards in local and international award giving bodies.

Therese was named as the Best Actress at the 2013 CineFilipino Film Festival for Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita, Best Actress at the Cinema One Originals 2015 for Hamog, Outstanding Artistic Achievement Golden Goblet Award at the 2016 Shanghai International Festival, Screen International Rising Star at the 2016 New York Asian Film Festival, Best Actress at the 2016 Moscow International Film Festival for Hamog, and Best Supporting Actress at the Eddys 2018 (Entertainment Editors' Choice Awards) for Ilawod.
