'5 and Up' is a tele-magazine show catered towards preteens which first aired on ABC 5. Produced by 'The Probe Team's' Cheche Lazaro, the show ran from 1992 until 2002. Get to know where the shows reporters are now!
Atom Araullo started his journalism career as a kid journalist in '5 and Up.'
Atom is still active in news and public affairs as a reporter for another network. He has also been listed as one of the most eligible bachelors in the Philippines.
“Look at this gem. The year was 1994, at the sunken garden in UP Diliman. Medyo sikat 'ata 'yung bandang kasama ko dito, Erase Your Heads 'ata? Tama ba? Hehe. This was an epic interview for the youth telemagazine show "5 and Up." The band had just released their second album, Circus, and the single "With a Smile" was invading the airwaves. We sang the song on the grass right there, with Ely playing the guitar. I was (am still) a massive fan. This is certainly one of the highlights of my life. Ate Pol, our producer (she's the cool girl at extreme right), kept this photo all these years. It was damaged during typhoon Ondoy. Hanep sa filter 'di ba,” Atom reminisces on his Instagram account.
Atom won the 2015 UST Students' Choice Awards, Students Leaders' Choice for TV Personality, as well as the Platinum Stallion Media Awards for Most Trusted Field Reporter Award.
Before becoming an actress, Chynna Ortaleza was a kid reporter for '5 and Up.'
Atom and Chynna served as the ate and kuya of the show.
The pair briefly reunited during a segment Atom did back when he was a reporter for GMA's '24 Oras.'
Chynna is well-known for her kontrabida roles like Stella in 'My Husband’s Lover' and as the young Cherie Gil in 'Legacy.'
Chynna married Callalily frontman Kean Cipriano in 2015. They are expecting their first child.
Aside from acting, Chynna is also into singing.
Her most recent project was playing the role of Batchi Luna in ‘The Rich Man’s Daughter,’ with her fellow Kapuso actresses Rhian Ramos (not in photo) and Glaiza de Castro.
Chynna became friends with Maxene Magalina during their '5 and Up' days.
The actress went on to play various roles in GMA shows like Vivian Salvador in 'My Lover, My Wife' and as Donna Vallejo, the middle child in Vic Sotto’s 'Daddy Di Do Du.'
Maxene is now working on some project with another network.
Maxene is currently dating musician Robby Mananquil.
Actor and dancer Rayver Cruz was also part of '5 and Up.'
Who would have thought the kid reporter would grow up like this?
Rayver is a triple threat as he can sing, dance, and act.
Rayver's brother Rodjun was also a kid reporter for '5 and Up.'
The brothers remain inseparable even after all these years!
Like his brother, Rodjun is also an actor and dancer. He starred in 'Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real' as Allan Real and as the young Arnaldo in 'My Faithful Husband.'
Rodjun is in a relationship with actress Dianne Medina.
'5 and Up' actually came from a suggestion of Zak Yuson, Cheche Lazaro's nephew, to have kids as reporters for an episode of 'The Probe Team.' Rave reviews of that particular episode led 'The Probe Team's' producers to create a spinoff show which became '5 and Up.'
Zak is now the Head of Citizen Journalism for Rappler's MovePH.
Nina Torres is one of the first three kid reporters, alongside Zak Yuson and Nina Serquina. According to her IMDB profile, she is now a production designer who has worked for films like 'Lilet Never Happened,' 'Thelma,' 'Slow Fade,' 'Pop Class,' and 'Baliw.'
UP Cheerdancer Frances Fleta was also among the kid reporters of '5 and Up.' She also co-hosted a sports-related program which ran from 2008 to 2010.
