Happy Birthday Chuchay! Funny girl and the lovable caretaker of Magic Kamison, Gladys Guevarra turns 30 on February 22. This talented and versatile entertainer is known for her singing prowess and her uncanny ability to make people laugh. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez. Introducing the character Chuchay on TV during her stay in Eat Bulaga and in her numerous stand-up performances around the metro, Gladys Guevarra earned her first ever solo lead in television portraying this character in the fantasy series Magic Kamison. The timing couldn’t be more perfect as Gladys was contemplating on leaving Eat Bulaga because of her deteriorating health condition. One of her biggest breaks in show business, she considered this show as an early birthday present from the GMA Network. “Eto, (Magic Kamison) napakasarap na birthday gift nito,” says Gladys when asked about her birthday wish during the controversial press conference of her show. Although, she was put on the spot when pressed for the true reason for her resignation in the noontime show, the cast and staff of Magic Kamison showed their full support. They only had good and encouraging messages for her on her birthday. Iwa Moto (Lindsay) “Friend, Happy Birthday! ‘Yung lahat ng problema mo, sana malagpasan mo. I’ll always be here. Alam ko bago pa lang tayo nagkakilala at bago lang tayo naging magkaibigan, pero tandaan mo lagi akong nandito para suportahan ka all throughout, friend! Kayang-kaya natin ‘yan. Lalabanan natin ‘yan. I love you so much dahil alam kong totoong tao ka at mabait ka. Salamat nga pala sa pagiging kaibigan ko. Happy Birthday!” Nadine Samonte (Ava) “Chuchay, Happy Birthday! I wish you more power and good health always. God bless you and I hope you’ll have more projects to come. Keep on smiling. I love you.” Alfred Vargas (Jaren) “Keep up the good work! It is really great working with you. Sana marami pa tayong projects together. And good luck with Magic Kamison!” As a show of support and friendship, her manager, Jun Nardo also gave us his birthday message cum advice to Gladys. “Learn not to be too sensitive sa showbiz. Kasi nga si Gladys, di naman talaga sanay na sanay yan (sa intriga). Wala (siya) masyadong kilalang press at hindi exposed sa (intrigues) basta trabaho lang nang trabaho yan. He confessed that until he came along and become her friend and manager, Gladys had no one to support and guide her. “Pagdating sa mga issues walang nagtatanggol sa kanya, walang nagsasabi kung anong dapat sabihin… Showbiz ‘to, damn if you do, damn if you don’t. Basta be good in your craft, pagbutihan mo na lang yung work mo, eventually naman kung may ayaw sa ‘yo mapipililtan (sila to accept you) dahil nga magaling ka namang singer and artista.
