Iza's Hard Goodbye

‘Joaquin Bordado’ is ending, and Iza Calzado reveals that she has a hard time letting go of people—especially those who she’s become friends with. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. As Joaquin Bordado enters its finale week, Iza Calzado is preparing herself for the inevitable separation that will soon follow. “I have separation anxiety from people,” the actress explains. She says that during the last taping for her other show, ESP, she cried. “It’s just a thirteen episode thing, [and] I cried at the end. “Ano ako talaga eh: emotional.” Iza says that when she grows close to something she does, and the people she does it with, she hates having to leave them. She remembers that during the last taping day of Encantadia, “bumaha doon eh; nagkaroon ng parang typhoon.” And she feels that the same will happen when the final taping day for Joaquin Bordado comes. “I’ve made some really good friends on the set, [the] production, si Binoe [Robin Padilla], si Ian [Veneracion]. Si Miss Gina [Alajar] nga, sandali ko lang nakasama ‘yun, kaya lang nagconnect talaga kami ng husto.” One of the other reasons the actress thinks she’ll have a hard time letting go of Joaquin Bordado is because of her character. “Ang lalim talaga ng istory ng character ko dito. Ang dami [niyang] pinagdaanan na hindi ko man lang pinagdaanan sa totoong buhay. “I’m very attached to my character.” The Action Figure Just in time for the show’s finale week, it’s also time for Iza to show her action skills. “Heto na ‘yung astig part ko!” Most of the stunts in Joaquin Bordado are choreographed by Robin himself, and Iza says that he’s actually a very patient teacher. She even adds, “Pag ma-interview mo siya tanungin mo kung kamusta naman ako, kung pasado ba ako [as a student].” Iza continues, “I know he has certain standards that I’m hoping I can meet. ‘Di ba? So siyempre nakakapressure. ‘Yung standards niya for fights scenes mataas.” And aside from the fight scenes, Iza says that there’s many more to watch out for in the last week of Joaquin Bordado : “Heto na, ‘yung ang tagal-tagal niyang kargang responsibilidad ni [Joaquin]: ang pagiging isang Bordado niya, and then ‘yung conflict na ako may dugong bad, sa kanya good, pero naglalabo-labo [because of] our son. So it’s really family.” She also teases that we’ll see how the other villains would get a shot at redemption. A very important part, according to Iza, because “hindi naman porque’t masama ka, wala ka nang pagkakataon gumawa ng tama, kahit sa huling saglit ng buhay mo.” Carlo J.
