Making a Mark

Earlier this year, after finishing a successful stint in Carlo J. Caparas' Kamandag, Mark Anthony Fernandez decided that it was time for him to try on new roles and different genres. This time around, he wanted to try comedy and see if he could make a mark by making people laugh. Text by Loretta G. Ramirez, Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio A lot of veteran artists will agree that comedy is the hardest thing to do. It is the most honest among the other genres because you either make people laugh, or you don't. Thus when Mark Anthony Fernandez chose to do comedy, he was not trying to slack off his craft. On the contrary, he wanted to go to the next level and test his abilities. Choosing comedy "Actually, after ng Kamandag, tinatanong ako kung ano ang gusto kong gawin. Sabi ko comedy," shares Mark with iGMA. He said that he wanted a new challenge after doing two serious roles in Impostora and Kamandag. "Sinasabi nila na, 'Ganito ka Mark, ganyan ka.' So sabi ko, kung ganoon, gusto kong mag-comedy kasi comedy raw ang pinakamahirap gawin. So sabi ko, para maipakita ko ang worth ko, gusto kong mag-comedy." When he was offered to do the role of Cyrus in GMA's first Koreanovela remake, Ako si Kim Samsoon he readily grabbed the project and tried to work on making people laugh. Mark makes his mark At the start of the series, it was obvious to the viewers that Mark and Ms. Regine Velasquez had good chemistry on-screen. The Songbird, being a veteran in romantic comedies nailed the role of Kim Samsoon. What surprised the televiewers is that Mark succeeded when it came to delivering the punch lines and making people laugh. "I think it was a little bit tough, medyo mabigat ng konti. It's an experience worth remembering. Though wala ako masyadong maraming comedy scenes dito, enjoy sya, pero at the same time talagang mahirap gawin dahil kailangan mapatawa naming yung manonood e," confessed Mark. But that did not put him off from doing comedies. In fact he wants to try another comedic project. "I want to be sana a part of a comedy again, mga tipong sitcom, parang ganito na mas comedy pa. Ang gusto ko kasi may ending e," he confirmed. Mark also said that after the show's good performance in the ratings game and getting a lot of positive reviews from the viewers and critics, he and Regine have talked about doing another project together. In the meantime fans of Kim Samsoon have still a lot of entertaining episodes to look forward to. "Maraming salamat sa pagpanood nyo sa amin lagi. Asahan nyo po na pipilitin naming gumawa ng kasing ganda o mas magandang proyekto. Pinagusapan namin ni Ms. Regine na sana magkasama kami ulit. Given the chance sa TV ulit."
