Who’s Next?

This weekend, another “Celebrity Duets” contender maybe eliminated and sing his/her last duet. Will it be the football hunk or the singing chef? Is it the actor-comedian or the fashion guru? Maybe it’s the beauty queen or could it be the politician? Your guess is as good as ours. The second season of Celebrity Duets is proving to be as colorful and fun as the first one. With Ms. Melanie Marquez and Ms. Cory Quirino out of the running, viewers could only speculate on who will be eliminated next. Exciting Performances Last Saturday’s show proved to be a revelation of some sorts as the six remaining contestants gave their most entertaining performance to date. Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando started the ball rolling by singing Barry Manilow’s catchy tune, “Copacabana” with John ‘Sweet’ Lapus. Complete with back-up dancers and costumes, he brought the house down with his energetic number. Host Ogie Alcasid even asked the Chairman whether he has anything to do on the next day (Sunday). “Baka gusto nyong mag-opening sa SOP? Pwdeng-pwede 'yung suot ninyo (smiles).” Trying to improve his previous performance, Chef JL gave a much relaxed and better duet. Even the judges commented that JL’s rendition of Iskul Bukol was really entertaining. “This is your best performance yet, grabe! You are not looking at the floor anymore. You are smiling. You are having fun! Galing!” Judge Tessa Prieto-Valdes told the young cook. Joey Marquez, on the other hand, surprised everybody with a romantic number with R&B princess, Kyla. “Tsong, tumatayo 'yung balahibo ko dun ah. Ibang klase!” was Ogie’s immediate reaction after their performance. “Naramdaman ko 'yung pagiging singer mo!” Phil Younghusband was the biggest revelation of the night when he performed a sizzling number with Sheree. “If you take off your shirt all the way, I am going to make sure that these two people (referring to Danny Tan and Freddie Santos) will say something nice next time,” Tessa remarked. JC Buendia, meanwhile, sang the feel good song Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head with Yasmien Kurdi. “Si JC kapag pinapanood ko, nag e-enjoy ako kasi palagi siyang naka-smile so pati ako nagi-smile na rin. At saka tama 'yung sinabi ni Tessa, kapag hindi ka masyadong nagpu-push, nako-control mo, wala ka masyadong sharp. So mas malinis ang pagkanta mo ngayon kaysa sa previous weeks,” Danny Tan said. Last but the not the least, the remaining lady contender in the competition sang a powerful ballad by Aegis, “Halik”. She got mixed reactions from the judges. Danny Tan said that he still prefers that Carlene sing other genres instead of rock. Freddie Santos disagreed and said that she is a certified rocker chic! Do you agree with the judges’ comments?
