Torn Between Two Lovers

Another classic story is making waves in the afternoon Dramarama block of GMA. Una Kang Naging Akin is about the bittersweet love triangle of Jessa, Vanessa and Nick/Darwin. Text by Loretta G. Mauricio In the television remake of this 1991 hit movie by Laurice Guillen, Wendell Ramos plays Nick/Darwin, the man torn between Angelika dela Cruz (Vanessa) and Maxene Magalona (Jessa). Sophisticated Vanessa Nick’s fiancée Vanessa Yumul comes from a prominent family. They were scheduled to be married when tragedy struck. Everyone believed that Nick was dead but Vanessa refused to accept that her soon-to-be husband was gone. She did everything to find Nick and in the end, Vanessa has proven that she was right. Wendell feels lucky that she is able to work with Angelika again. They have worked together in the past but this is the first time that they are paired in a heavy drama project. "First time sa regular show at heavy drama pero before nagkatrabaho kami sa Campus Romance and dati nga naiilang pa ako sa kanya pero ngayon okay na. Magaling pa rin sya hanggang ngayon, very professional at very versatile," describes Wendell about his lovely co-star. Innocent Jessa When Nick's helicopter crashed, he lost his memory. He also met Jessa, an innocent and provincial girl who quickly fell in love with this mysterious man. Wendell admits that working with Maxene triggered a lot of reactions. Their age difference made a lot of people doubt if their love team will succeed, but as the ratings and good reviews have proven, Wendell and Maxene have truly hit it off. "Si Maxene sobrang thankful ako dahil hindi sya 'yung tulad ng ibang beginners na nandyan 'yung naiilang, nadyan 'yung kuya ang tingin sa akin. Si Maxene kasi pagdating nya sa set walang 'kuya' talagang 'Darwin' [ang tingin nya sa akin], in character. Usually pag nagkakaroon ako ng adlib, 'yung mga scenes na lambingan namin, nagugulat sya na bigla kong nagagawa 'yun pero malalaman na focused sya kasi sumasabay din sya. So alam nya, ang galing nyang maka-pick up at magaling syang artista," says Wendell about this young actress. Though people who have watched the movie know what will happen in the end, they still watch the TV version because of how good these actors are on screen. They readily sympathize with Nick/Darwin and know how he must feel because he is torn between two great women. Directed by Joel Lamangan, Una Kang Naging Akin is indeed a classic love story.
