Creating a Buzz

Glaiza de Castro is shedding old cast mates and jumping into a new pool of friends. And as the bee-autiful Leah, Glaiza hopes to show a different side of her. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. It's no secret that Glaiza de Castro has wanted to work with Dennis Trillo for a good long while now—and her wish is finally getting granted. But, Glaiza says, Gagambino wasn't the first show given to her. "Nung binalita sa akin na magkakaroon ako ng show, sinabi LaLola. Tapos, ewan ko, bakit bigla ito 'yung binigay: Gagambino. Pero ayos na rin, kasi totally new." Having been in a number of shows now, with usually the same cast, Glaiza is happy that she's exploring new chemistries with other actors—"Lahat ng katrabaho ko dito, hindi ko pa nakakatrabaho. Except for Polo [Ravales] and [her Boys Nxt Door cast mates]. Lahat talaga." The young actress adds that it was a good thing they were given workshops before the taping. "Parang sa workshop na 'yun, mas nakilala namin 'yung isa't isa—tapos may time kami to bond." She continues that it helps them to be more comfortable with each other, "hindi katulad nung salang agad—parang wala na kaming time to chitchat." Best thing about getting to know her cast mates prior to shooting? "Hindi ko inexpect na ganun pala sila—" Glaiza says that they're all very open to each other. "Na-break 'yung wall, parang ganoon." When it comes to Dennis though, Glaiza admits to still being shy around the actor. "Pero masaya ako." In this program, Glaiza is reuniting with Leo Martinez. But Glaiza quickly comments with a laugh, "kakampi naman siya ngayon dito." Previously, Leo played Glaiza's very strict grandfather in Kaputol ng Isang Awit. For her character, she says there hasn't been any heavy lifting yet—"medyo relaxed pa 'yung character ko; wala pa masyadong effort." But, Glaiza is quick to add, she is having fun with it. "It's totally different talaga: ngayon lang ako magkakaroon ng costume, ngayong lang ako magkakapowers—so ibang-iba na Glaiza. Kahit cliche na yang line nay an, pero iba talaga." And to draw in the audiences, Glaiza says that this show is not your typical superhero show. "Ito 'yung first na telefantasya na maraming heroes; tapos, iba-iba kami ng powers. Hindi pa natin nakikita yun sa mga nakalipas na telefantasya." She continues that this time "hindi lang bata 'yung makakarelate. Makakarelate din 'yung mga adults; lalo na 'yung mahihilig sa komiks [at] sa action figures. "Kasi si Carlo J. Caparas 'yung gumawa nito. So talagang ibang-iba." Don't miss new episodes of Carlo J. Caparas' Gagambino every weeknight! Glaiza enters the web this week with Isabel Oli, so that's definitely something to watch out for. Talk about your show expectations at the iGMA Forums!
