WATCH: Bibeth Orteza on Eddie Garcia's heart attack diagnosis, 'ruled out'

Veteran actor Eddie Garcia is currently in critical condition due to severe cervical fracture.

And according to his good friend writer-director Bibeth Orteza, Garcia was still in deep sleep as of Sunday when she visited.

During a phone interview earlier today with Unang Hirit anchor Susan Enriquez, Orteza explained how the previous diagnosis came to be.

She recalled, “Ngayon, dinala siya [Eddie Garcia] sa ospital and then meron daw, diumano, about 30 minutes from the time na nanggaling dun sa location.

“And then pagdating sa hospital, sinasabi na daw ng crew na heart attack. And I think, nasabi nila 'yun kasi sa pagkakaalam ng ordinaryong tao na pag may isang may edad at natumba, usually ang alam mo heart attack yun, di ba?

“'Di ka naman pwedeng… isang layman tapos pinasok mo sa ospital at sasabihin mo cervical fracture. That's a medical call, e.

“And maging 'yung mga unang doktor na tumingin sa kaniya, based on a cursory physical examination, it also looked like a heart attack.

“This was around 2 o'clock in the afternoon."

By Saturday evening, Bibeth said that the test results had come back and the previous diagnosis were ruled out.

“Pagdating ng gabi, after all the tests had been done at pumasok na 'yung tests isa-isa nakita na hindi pala heart attack.

“Ni-rule out 'yung heart attack, ni-rule out 'yung aneurysm, ni-rule out 'yung heatstroke.

“And the medical condition is caused by cervical fracture sa vertebra. Sa part ng spine na C1 and C2.” she said.

The family and loved ones of Garcia have asked for prayers and requested for privacy as regards the actor's state.
