Luis Alandy becomes the good guy

Since nagbalik-Kapuso si Luis Alandy, he's been playing character roles na medyo mayaman—at demented. For 'Luna Mystika,' he tries out a different part—mahirap, pero mabait. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
Here's something you might not have known about Luna Mystika. According to Luis, naging very hectic daw ang taping ng show dahil "we were given a short time to tape 'yung mga eksena na ipapalabas [sa pilot] week."
Pero parang hindi naman affected ang quality ng program dahil until now it's enjoying high ratings sa Telebabad block.
Being of the inquisitive nature, sinubukan naming alamin kung ano ang dahilan ng pagiging hectic ng schedule nila noon at isa lang ang sinabi ni Luis: "Pag-ulan." Apparently, sinasabayan lagi ng ulan ang kanilang taping schedule. But you know kung ano ang sinasabi ng mga matatanda about events na inuulan—blessed ang mga ito. But enough talk about rains and superstitions. Let's talk about Luis Alandy. Andoy, his Luna Mystika character, is very different from the roles he has played in the last few years. At ang unang nasabi ni Luis about this? "Ngayon, hindi na ako professional." He's talking about his past roles, of course. From Impostora to Dyesebel, Luis has always been given roles that are professional of nature: a plastic surgeon, a lawyer, an advertising executive. This time, he's nothing more than a kanto boy—pero with a twist din. Siya ang matalik na kaibigan ng titular character na si Luna. "The original character that was given to me here, parang loner, medyo quiet. But they tweaked it a little. Ngayong parang playboy na, but loyal friend [pa rin] ni Luna. [At] mabait ako dito." Natatawang dagdag ni Luis, "First time in three soap operas na mabait 'yung gagampanan ko." Admittedly, Luis has played someone nice before—sa La Vendetta. Hindi nga lang siya nag-stay na mabait because he was revealed to be Almira's killer sa dulo. "'Yun 'yung pinakamahirap, dahil nag-change kaagad sa ending. You get used to doing this character, then biglang may twist na ganoon na hindi namin alam." But what's past is past, at mukhang mas straight-forward naman ang character ni Andoy sa Luna Mystika. Except for the part na he's in love with Celestina who isn't exactly the epitome of goodness. Who knows kung magkakaroon ulit ng twist sa character ni Luis? Lalo na ngayon na alam na niyang engkanto ang magkapatid na sina Luna at Celestina. "Actually, 'yung [characters] namin dito [ni Kris Bernal], hindi kami naniniwala sa nanay namin [regarding sa mga engkanto]. But we still wear what she gives us, 'yung mga protection [na binibigya niya]." That has already changed though, at mukhang mas magiging malaki pa ang papel ni Andoy sa buhay ng magkapatid. Pero may papel din bang gagampanan ang mga wards ni Piryang sa pakikipagsapalaran ni Andoy sa mga engkanto? At may gagampanang papel rin ba ang napiling look ni Luis Alandy for his character? Kuwento ni Luis, he really thought about his character sa show, including the plot twists na nabanggit na sa kanila to make their portrayal more real (and less out-of-the-blue, 'pag nagkataon). "Kaya nag-ganito, medyo eccentric 'yung itsura. Kasi you need to have that strength in the character, yet people [should] find the truth in your character." So ano nga ba ang truth na gustong i-project ni Luis sa mga viewers? That's something we'll all find out habang patuloy na lumalawak ang istorya ng Luna Mystika. Kaya patuloy itong subaybayan, weeknights sa GMA Telebabad—pagkatapos ng 24 Oras.
