LaLola's bittersweet goodbye

As 'LaLola' draws to a close, we find out from the people who are integral to its success how they feel about this. Para sa kanila, bittersweet ang pagtatapos ng 'LaLola,' dahil they consider this as a fresh experience well worth their while. Text by Erick Mataverde. Photos Mitch S. Mauricio.
Getting close
For JC DeVera, it was a perfect chance to become closer to his co-star, Rhian Ramos. And he feels that working with her was quite an experience, although brief: "Ngayon, nabigyan ako ng chance na maka-trabaho si Rhian, so ine-enjoy ko lang po talaga 'yung time na magkasama kami sa work. Nagustuhan ko 'yung company niya. 'Go' siya. Kasi kung hindi mo talaga gusto 'yung isang tao, bakit ka mag-aaksaya ng time na makilala siya. I grabbed the opportunity na makatrabaho siya, makilala ko siya. So naging close kami.
Kung mabibigyan naman kami ng chance talaga, I would like to work with Rhian again. Sayang eh, parang naging maiksi sa amin 'yung LaLola. So sana, this time, mas matagal ang show and story para hindi mabitin 'yung para sa amin."
Sad and excited
For Rhian, madaming emotions ang nararamdaman niya. Considering this is her first foray in playing a major role. "Well, I'm both excited and parang sad at the same time. Excited dahil parang, 'Wow natapos ko siya nang buhay!' May nagawa akong isang napaka-gandang show that people talked about and you know, I'm just super proud of it kasi—not that I'm happy it's coming to an end. Pero parang ganon. And then sad because siyempre I've grown to love it here, I don't know when I'm gonna be able to work with them again, or if I am. So ayun lang, parang mami-miss ko lang talaga silang lahat," paglalahad ng dalaga. At mukhang indication ang kanyang work ethic kung bakit she was able to portray her characters impeccably. Kuwento pa ni Rhian, "It's not just the people on the set that I'm gonna miss, I'm gonna miss also reading the script because I think everyone, after a while, tends to fall in love with their character, so mami-miss ko si Lola in that sense na napapatawa niya rin ako. After a while, you really do tend to fall in love with Lola and si Facundo na rin because that's who my character's in love with, and Gary (played by Keempee de Leon), I'm gonna miss him as a best friend. Ang saya niyang best friend." Meant to impress Even Direk Dominic Zapata acknowledges that LaLola was a chance for the cast to prove their mettle. Kanyang in-affirm ito: "It was a good opportunity for several actors to show their wares: for Rhian, for JC. Ano rin 'to, eh, for Rhian, first title role. For JC, sa bagay, naglead na rin naman siya sa prime time. Pero 'yung ganoon ka-talagang—ito talaga sa kanila naka-poste." Si JC naman ay nag-urge sa kanilang fans to give the same, or even better, support as what they have given LaLola: "Sana hindi pa dito matapos 'yung pagtulong ninyo sa amin, kung meron mang susunod, sana nandyan pa rin kayo para sa amin."
