Not Just Another Eve

Almost two years after “Impostora,” magsasamang muli ang unbeatable tandem of Sunshine Dizon and Iza Calzado. And to make their comeback more exciting, makikipagsabayan sina Eula Valdez at Jean Garcia sa kanilang heavy drama moments. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
Memorable ang gabi ng March 3 para sa cast ng All About Eve. Bukod sa fact na ito ang gabi ng kanilang press conference, ito rin ang first time nilang mapanood ang mga eksenang nakunan na nila.
The event was held as if it was a live airing of a talk show and hosted by Pia Guanio. Scenes were shown from the soap, after which, by groups Pia interviewed the cast.
"Kinikilabutan ako kanina, nung pinapanood namin ['yung scenes]," bungad na bati ni Jean Garcia na gaganap bilang Katrina. She also reveals na they've already filmed around two weeks worth of the soap dahil nga malapit na ang pilot episode nito. "We're very proud [of what we have filmed]." And siyempre, excited na rin siya sa pagbabalik-tambalan nilang ni Eula Valdez. "It's been a long time, aminin mo ‘yan," natatawang sabi ni Jean sa mga dumalo. Eula shares the excitement but "at the same time, kinakabahan" daw siya. Pero pagdating sa taping mismo, wala nang kailangan pang ikaba si Eula. "'Yung first scene namin together, automatic," sabi niya while noting that rehearsal pa lang, parang their last soap together was just yesterday. "Walang nagbago, pareho pa rin," Jean finishes. Richard Gomez, who plays Frederico sa All About Eve couldn't make the press conference but the second batch, the younger members of the main cast, ay kumpletong dumalo sa event. Ito ay sina Iza Calzado, Sunshine Dizon, Mark Anthony Fernandez and Alfred Vargas -- the same cast who brought to life Impostora back in 2007.
Kaya naman ang tanong ni Pia sa kanila: what are the challenges sa kanilang portrayals for this soap? "Siguro the pinaka-challenge lang was to make it different this time," Sunshine answers. Iza agrees. "This is our fourth soap together," she says, patungkol sa much-loved tandem nila ni Sunshine. However, unlike in previous soaps wherein inaapi na lang lagi ang characters ni Iza, "dito lumalaban si Nicole." And Sunshine's antagonistic character also has a past to fall back on. "Maiintindihan mo 'yung angst niya," she quickly says. Mark Anthony can only say na maswerte siya that he gets to act with Iza and Sunshine again; habang si Alfred Vargas naman ay hindi pa rin makapaniwala na kasama nila sa soap ang mga bigating artista tulad nina Richard, Eula at Jean. "Nakakalula na nakakalunod. Parang, wow!" He adds, "ang sarap nilang katrabaho." After their group, ipinakilala rin ang relatively small cast of supporting roles na magdadagdag ng kulay at buhay sa Filipino version ng All About Eve. Miss Celia Rodriguez plays Donya Concepcion, ang matapobreng ina ni Frederico; Miss Carmen Ronda returns to television as Donya Luisa, ang mapang-aping lola ni Kenneth (Mark Anthony); Keempee de Leon and Marky Lopez play best friends of the two younger leading men, Gabby Eigenmann plays the ex-boyfriend of Erika (Sunshine), and Angel Aquino plays Judith, the host of All About Eve. Kasama rin sa cast, in very special roles, sina Eric Quizon as Don Robert, Ian de Leon as Mando, and Ina Raymundo as Lisa. At lahat sila, isa lang ang masasabi about the show -- that they are proud of it, thankful for it, and expect people to really enjoy it.
