Joey Bautista's wife Belinda Bagatsing says he died from COVID-19

Singer Joey Bautista of classic pop band Mulatto has been confirmed to be caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The news was posted on his wife Belinda Bagatsing's Facebook page on March 20, following his death on March 19.

Belinda announced the result of Joey's test through Facebook, saying her husband passed away suffering from what they thought was severe pneumonia, without knowing he was COVID-19 positive since his test results arrived after his death.

She wrote, “He passed away not knowing the result of his COVID-19 swab test. Today i was informed the his official test result came out, positive COVID-19. If any of you were around us the last 30 days, please monitor yourselves and get yourself checked.“

She also encouraged everyone who has been around her and Joey for the past 30 days to monitor their health and get checked if they feel symptoms of COVID-19.

Belinda also announced that she will be under self-quarantine for three weeks. “I have no symptoms and under quarantine for 21 days. Stay safe everyone.”

Joey was recently in Legazpi with his band for a gig but Joey did not perform and was already feverish, according to Belinda's post.
