Sen. Koko Pimentels' wife defends husband, says he 'never reached inside the delivery room'

By Dianara Alegre

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel's wife Kathryna Yu-Pimentel on Wednesday denied allegations that she and husband Sen. Koko went to a Makati hospital's delivery room despite the fact that the latter has tested positive for 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In an effort to air her side, Kathryna, who is pregnant with their third child, messaged Kapuso news anchor Arnold Clavio and told him her side of the story.

Arnold posted the said message on Instagram, and he wrote, “Statement of Kathryna Yu-Pimentel. Hindi raw totoo na nakarating sila ng asawa niyang si Koko Pimentel sa delivery room ng Makati Medical Center (MMC).”

“Sir Igan, I feel really sad they are insisting I was in the DR and Sen. Koko. Never reached inside the DR (delivery room). I took the stress test for the baby inside the examination room. I even asked the nurse anong tawag sa room na pinagdalhan sa 'kin.

“Examination room is beside their recovery room which was still far from the DR. And Sen Koko didn't join me sa Examination room last night too.

“The stress test happened around 8:30 pm last night in the examination room. Ako lang po mag-isa d'yan. Kasi sabi din nila bawal ang husband or bantay.

“I no longer understand why Makati Med given their prestige name would insist on a story that is not even true.”

Kathryna also sent a picture of the examination room to the news reporter.

“I even took a picture of the examination room during my stress test. Ayan po ang room. Pano po yan magiging DR?” she continued.

This was because Sen. Koko drew ire on social media after netizens accused him of roaming the hospital with his wife, despite showing symptoms of COVID-19.

Pimentel admitted he tested positive for the virus on Wednesday (March 25). In a series of messages and interviews, he said he was informed of his test results Tuesday night when he was with his wife at MMC and left the hospital immediately upon learning he is indeed positive.

However, in a statement posted on MMC's Facebook account, the hospital insisted that Sen. Pimentel has indeed breached Makati Medical Center's infection control protocols.

Pimentel is the second senator to test positive for COVID-19. It was Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri who first disclosed that he contracted the disease.

Meanwhile, according to reports, Kathryna, who was scheduled to give birth Wednesday morning, is currently under isolation and the delivery of their third child was postponed.
