Dayanara Torres is now cancer-free!

By Dianara Alegre

Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres on Saturday shared that her cancer treatment is finally over.

The beauty queen made the announcement while speaking to Centerstage Pops Fernandez through Instagram Live broadcast.

It was in February 2019 when Dayanara revealed that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer called melanoma.

“For a year, I've been battling cancer. It was found last year. It was out of the blue. I'm telling you like you would never believe.

“I was working. I was being a judge on a show which is like 'Dancing with the Stars' in Spanish, flying every week at the beginning of the year. And the next morning, I found out it was cancer,” the former Miss Universe recalled.

"I started treatment for a year and I thank the Lord and all those prayers, people from the Philippines, everywhere in the world. It's amazing the amount of love and support and prayers that I received. Last week, on Monday, I had my last test to just check if there's anything kinda like leftover hanging around or whatever, and everything was negative,” she said.

“I'm done with treatment. It took me a year and now for the next two years I'd be doing tests every three months just to be safe,” she added.

Aside from updating her supporters about her health condition, Torres also related her plans of going back to the Philippines as soon as the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is over.

“I would love to. The funny thing is right now, nobody knows what's going on in the world. I am blessed that my oldest son [who] lives in New York, which is the worst state fighting the coronavirus, he was lucky enough that he and his girlfriend were able to leave early. So they are here. The three of us are together. We're together. I am blessed that way,” she said.

“At the same time, it kinda makes you realize that all this time, I could have flown to the Philippines, I could have been there, I could have enjoyed everything that I wanted to do and I never did. And now we are stuck in a limbo. We don't know what's going to happen. We know this is going to be over soon but when? As soon as this is over, I definitely need to go back. I miss everybody,” she added.

Dayanara has been updating her followers about her health since news about her condition broke out and on March 25, she gladly shared that her treatment is almost over and now she finally tested negative for the disease.
