Filipino deaf community lauds Janine Gutierrez for showing support on sign language in news broadcast

Kapuso actress Janine Gutierrez was showered with love on her Twitter account yesterday after her tweet showing support to Filipino sign language went viral on the social media site.

Dated April 20, the actress shared with her many followers that the news, more specifically 24 Oras, is featuring sign language as they deliver reports in the evening.

She wrote, “So good that there's Filipino Sign Language (FSL) on the news now. Sana tuloy-tuloy na, even when this crisis is over.”

The tweet has since been retweeted 60 times and has received more than 400 likes.

In the comments section, fans from the deaf community lauded the 30-year-old actress for showing appreciation to their language.

One netizen replied, “Much appreciate your thoughtfulness and supporting our deaf community. I hope one day you may learn the Filipino Sign Language to communicate with deaf people.”

To which Janine replied, “I'm trying to learn!!”

Another netizen commented, “I am Filipino deaf and appreciate this. Thank you for your compliment and for supporting our FSL and the Filipino deaf community. One day you will know basic FSL.”

The Filipino Sign Language Act, or RA No. 11106, states that the “Filipino Sign Language shall be the language of broadcast media interpreting and that the interpreter insets are required in news and public affairs programs.”
