Swab Test on Wheels makes COVID-19 testing more accessible for Pasay City residents

By Racquel Quieta

Ever since the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic began, local government units in Metro Manila have been creating innovative solutions to help address different issues encountered, such as hospitals reaching their full capacities and people having a hard time buying basic necessities amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

It can be recalled that in the city of Manila, passenger ships have been transformed into quarantine facilities, to help accommodate suspected and probable COVID-19 patients.

While other cities, such as Pasig and Quezon City, brought the market closer to the barangays with the launch of their Mobile Palengke and Fresh Market on Wheels.

And just recently, Pasay City has launched another innovative initiative to ramp up the number of COVID-19 tests conducted in their city, the Swab Test on Wheels.

Pasay City's Swab Test on Wheels

The Swab Test on Wheels aims to make COVID-19 testing more accessible to Pasay City residents by bringing the testing facility to their barangay.

They have converted a mobile dental clinic into a roving testing facility, which will go to different barangays to conduct COVID-19 tests.

In an interview with 24 Oras, Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said that the Swab Test on Wheels was established so that they can reach barangays that are located far from health centers in the city.

According to the Pasay City Public Information Office, as of April 23, 11:50 PM, there are already 150 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Pasay City.

And the numbers are expected to rise now that more COVID-19 tests will be conducted in the succeeding days via the Swab Test on Wheels.
