Denise Laurel on getting hacked: 'It was honestly really scary'

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

Following her plea for help regarding her hacked Instagram account, actress Denise Laurel shared a quick update to her fans about what happened and how she was able to regain control over it.

In an Instagram video, Denise shared that getting hacked was “honestly really scary” because she didn't understand where it was coming from.

She spoke on camera, “So, yesterday was a really scary day because I woke up from my nap and I had no plans of getting on Instagram. But for some reason, I just felt the need to do so and I'm so glad I did because as I got on I was being hacked and I didn't know what was going on.

“Everything was on Turkish and I posted it online because I thought it was a prank. I'm so not a techie and I was able to change my passwords quickly so they won't be able to take over.”

The 32-year-old mom of one also shared that she was able to quickly figure out what was going on thanks to a handful of helpful fans and friends.

She also made it clear that she is in no way associated with the hackers, nor any Turkish group, that took control of her account.

“I want to thank you guys for all the care and all the quick responses that helped me because I'm so not tech-savvy.

“I was able to figure out, from your comments, what these Turkish hackers have been doing and why they're doing it. So, thank you.

“I just want to make it clear that I'm not affiliated with the Armenians nor am I Turkish. I'm not taking sides and I'm not trying to offend anybody --- not even Kim Kardashian, not that she's gonna notice or care.

“But yeah, I'm not one to do that. I'm on the side of peace and love, and I am a supporter and cheerleader of God. So no, I am not a part of any of that. So, I hope you would stop commenting on my page with the bots or the trolls or whatever because it's getting out of hand. And it's just negative.”

She then advised her fans to learn from her experience and make sure to regularly update their passwords for the safety of all their private information.

“I hope you guys take control of the safety of your social media accounts as well.

“I did have the two-factor authentication on my Instagram but they were still able to hack [my account], so change your passwords regularly.

“This whole experience has honestly been really scary for me but thank you guys for being there. It's just crazy that someone can pretend to be you and have all this information. I have nothing to hide, but it's just crazy. It's just a crazy world so let's all pray for each other,” she concluded.

Getting hacked was honestly really scary! You never think it's gonna happen to ya.. watch till the end:) Thanks again for helpin me through it everyone! Specially @lei_norwood and @piacampos ..I felt the love and care guys thaaankyouu!

She wrote on Instagram, “What is going on?! What does this even mean?! I have never commented on Kim Kardashian's page and I don't know how to speak whatever language that is.”

A netizen explained that Denise's account was used to comment on the controversy involving Kim Kardashian, who recently made headlines for recognizing the Armenian Genocide that took place in Turkey during and after the First World War.

Since the incident, Denise still regularly gets Turkish comments on her Instagram account.
