Hagibis lead singer Sonny Parsons dies of heart attack

The Philippine music industry mourns the loss of Hagibis frontman Sonny Parsons as he passed away due to heart attack yesterday, May 10.

According to reports, he had a heart attack while riding a motorcycle in Batangas on his way to Quezon.

He was only 61 years old.

The news was confirmed by VST & Co. band member Manuel Rigor who posted a photo of the late musician.

In it, he wrote, “Ride free, Sonny Parsons. We had good and bad times. Salamat sa mga alaala, lakay. You will be missed. So sad.”

Similarly, former sexy actress Vivian Velez paid tribute to Sonny on her official Facebook account.

She wrote, “Another legend of OPM's Pinoy Discorama… Rest in peace Senyor Sonny Parsons of Hagibis. Ride to paradise my friend.”

Hagibis was a prominent Filipino disco group in the late '70s until the '90s best known for their macho image and on-stage all-leather costumes. Their hits song include, “Legs,” “Babae,” “Lalake,” and “Katawan.”

They were eventually dubbed as the Filipino version of the American disco group Village People.

Its lead singer, Sonny Parsons, was a Filipino actor, singer, and politician. He founded the Allied Forces of the Philippines Civilian Volunteers (AFPCIV), a reputable non-governmental organization whose mission is focused on humanitarian response and anti-crime operations throughout the Philippines.
