Diego Castillo and Nikki Cruz with ultrasound

Diego Castillo and his wife Nikki Cruz are expecting their first child.

“The greatest things that have ever happened in my life has been because of one person,” penned Diego Castillo, lead guitarist of OPM band Sandwich, as he announced the pregnancy of his wife Nikki Cruz to his fans.

In the lengthy post, Diego shared the many moments his wife has honed him to become the man that he is today thus preparing him to became the father he'd always wanted to be in the future.

He wrote, “I have to admit; I did fancy myself as having been fortunate enough to have had a pretty lucky and charmed existence, but never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would be this happy and complete until I met Nikki [Cruz].

"The best thing that's ever happened to a fool like me is not only finding my soul mate, the one true love of my life but also being able to call her my wife.

“Now, a new and most wonderful thing has yet again been afforded to me by her to be able to start our family and be a father. Crazy!”

He recalled that they received the great news in March, before the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine, and was indeed a trying moment for him and his wife.

He explained, “Expecting a new life during this pandemic has been one of the most difficult things I've ever experienced, and I can only imagine what it must be like for Nikki.

“She had a very difficult first trimester. That so-called 'morning sickness' became more of an 'all day' sickness, and without the benefit of physical support from family and friends, not to mention being told by doctors that going to the hospital was a 'no go,' only exacerbated the whole scenario even more.”

The whole ordeal was very scary for Diego that he admitted “crying out of the blue not knowing if I was doing the right thing for her and our baby.”

By the end of the post, Diego concluded thanked all his family and friends who supported them remotely through the pandemic.

He shared, “After the first month of lockdown, I so wished we had someone at home to help us. The physical and maybe slightly worst, the psychological toll can be maddening at times, and it was only because of Nikki's incredible disposition did we get through some days.

“'It takes a village to raise a child…' That's why we are so thankful that we have an incredible and loving family and friends who, without them, I'm not sure if Nikki and I could have survived. We love you all.”

Now, a new and most wonderful thing has yet again been afforded to me by her, to be able to start our family and be a Father. Crazy! We found out in March and only told a few friends and our immediate family. Expecting a new life in the midst of this pandemic has been one of the most difficult things I've ever experienced, and I can only imagine what it must be like for Nikki. She had a very difficult 1st Trimester. That so called “morning sickness” became more of an “all day” sickness, and without the benefit of physical support from family and friends, not to mention being told by Doctors that going to the hospital was a “no go”, only exacerbated the whole scenario even more. The stress and anxiety of those early weeks were soul crushing. With Nikki feeling so sick and exhausted she would just stay in bed and leave just to go to the bathroom. I won't lie, I was getting a bit scared and sometimes would just start crying out of the blue not knowing if I was doing the right thing for her and our baby. But like always, we did the best we could. We've always prided ourselves as being self-sufficient and independent. Everything is done by us. We are a two-person household living in a small apartment, and it was perfect. But after the 1st month of lockdown I so wished we had someone at home to help us! The physical and maybe slightly worst, psychological toll can be maddening at times and it was only because of Nikki's incredible disposition did we get through some days. “It takes a village to raise a child…” That's why we are so thankful that we have incredible and loving family and friends who, without them, I'm not sure if Nikki and I couldn't have survived. We love you all! ❤️
