Ben&Ben song 'Lifetime' inspired by a fan's heartbreaking story

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

OPM band Ben&Ben revealed through a Facebook post that their upcoming single titled “Lifetime” is based on a fan's story of repressed feelings that could've led to something more --- if only they were honest.

Posted on their music video for “Pagtingin,” Anna Jou wrote, “I had a best friend during high school whom I liked but I never told him because I was scared of losing our friendship and also him himself.

“So instead of telling him what I felt, I hid and buried my feelings. And you know what happens to feelings that are buried? They grow.”

According to Anna, her feelings grew so much so that she began writing poems and songs dedicated to her best friend.

By the time came that she attended his wedding, she found out that her best friend liked her back.

“Before his wedding, he thanked me for being his best friend and told me that before he met the girl he got married to, he loved me first. For 5 years.

“But he was also scared of losing me so he just decided to keep it. I was shocked and I slightly had anger towards the world.

"We didn't know that if only one of us dared to make a move, a lifetime was waiting for us.”

In the end, she advised Ben&Ben fans to “express how you feel so that in the end you won't regret anything.”

Fortunately for Anna, her story doesn't have to have a sad ending because Ben&Ben heeded her call and mentioned that their upcoming track is dedicated to her.

The ennead announced on their Facebook account, “The new single we are releasing on Thursday [June 4] is a tribute to Anne Jou's story. It is called 'Lifetime.'

“Kahit 'di natin sila nakatuluyan sa mundong ito, oks lang naman kasi nakaukit naman na sila sa mga awitin natin.”

During a press conference via Zoom last Monday, the group revealed further details about the upcoming track including working with acclaimed music engineer Leon Zervos.

As reported by GMA News Online, Ben&Ben mentioned, “Nagulat din kami kasi big-time siyang mastering engineering.

Of course with the help of our record label, Sony Music Philippines, we were able to get in touch with him Thankfully, he said yes to our project.”

The band also said that this will be the third time they're working with Leon who has worked with international acts like Rihanna, Maroon 5, and P!nk.

“'Ito 'yung third. It's been a treat being able to work with Leon Zervos especially knowing the clients that he's been able to master music for.”

When asked what's the Leon Zervos touch? The group answered, “When we received the master of the file, iba e … iba 'yung clarity.”

“Lifetime” will be out tomorrow, June 4.
