The Filipino entertainment industry mourns the passing of multi-awarded actress Anita Linda this morning, June 10.

The news was confirmed by director Adolfo Alix Jr., who paid tribute to the Adela actress by saying, “This is a very sad day for me. I am trembling as I gather my thoughts… She is like my lola and part of my family.

“The great Anita Linda has passed away this morning at 6:15 am at 95 years of age. Prayers for her soul.”

Adolf was Anita's director in several indie films including the award-winning Adela (2008) and Presa (2010).

Born Alice Buenaflor Lake, Anita is a two-time FAMAS award-winning and Gawad Urian award-winning Filipino film actress.

She was discovered at an early age by renowned director Lamberto Avellana while watching a stage show at the Avenue Theater.

The first acting role that she did was High School with no dialogue, then Biyernes sa Quiapo with Jaime dela Rosa, and Aksesorya with Leopoldo Salcedo.

She was then given the screen name Anita Linda by Lamberto Avellana in her breakout role in Tia Juana, her first film under LVN Pictures.

In her later years, she garnered widespread acclaim for starring in the film Adela directed by Adolfo Alix Jr where she gained Best Actress at the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival, Best Actress by the Young Critics Circle, and Best Actress at the Gawad Tanglaw Awards.

At the age of 74, she became the oldest actress to ever win a FAMAS for her role in Ang Babae sa Bubungang Lata for Best Supporting Actress.

Last year, the Film Development Council of the Philippines honored Anita for her contribution in Philippine Cinema.
