Marvin: 'Kahit support lang, basta maganda 'yung role, tinatanggap ko.'

Every successful actor usually has a niche--as a leading man, a heartthrob, the boy-next-door, isang kontrabida or as a funny-guy-who-never-gets-the-girl. However, GMA Artist Center (GMAAC) talent Marvin Agustin is one of few actors who has been all of the above on screen and even more. Text and photos courtesy of GMA Network. Currently mapapanood natin siya as a kontrabida sa Panday Kids at isa sa mga hosts ng Dear Friend. In Panday Kids, he plays the role of Lizardo, ang kalaban ng mga sugo ni Panday. Although the show is a spin-off of from the recently shown Metro Manila Film Festival hit, Ang Panday, Marvin manages to breathe fresh life into a character that had just won an award for another actor. “I gave Lizardo a sense of humor to make it more child-friendly,” Marvin said. “Lizardo may have a mean bone but he manages to sneak in punch lines sometimes.” Prior to Panday Kids, Marvin was cast in GMA-7’s heavy dramas Tinik Sa Dibdib and Gaano Kadalas Ang Minsan. He was also seen in SOP where he got to show off his hosting, singing and dancing skills. Marvin is in demand in the movies, too. He is part of Red Shoes, a love story that revolves around one of the stilettos of former First Lady Imelda Marcos. He is also cast in the new Marilou Diaz-Abaya film, Ikaw Ang Pag-ibig, where he will share the screen real-life couple Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo. So with all these projects, one nami-miss ba niya ang leading man roles? "I do but getting such roles is not my priority,” he said. “I no longer aim to be number one. Instead, I want to take on more projects that excite me, challenge me.
