Jasmine Curtis-Smith stars in a short film shot during lockdown

By Jansen Ramos

COVID-19 has caused film workers their livelihood as Philippine movie companies suspended its production due to the growing concerns over the disease.

However, it does not stop them to unleash their creativity because they find the quarantine period an opportune time for them to be experimental as technological advancements are readily available.

This led film director, Samantha Lee, and cinematographer, Michelle Kwong, to work together to create a short film about longing titled Until It's Safe, which is inspired by the many challenges imposed by the present coronavirus.

It follows the story of two women, played by Jasmine Curtis-Smith and American actress Ella Lentini, with different time zones navigating a long distance relationship.

Until It's Safe was shot in Manila and in Los Angeles, where the actors reside, respectively, during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Jasmine posted the trailer of the short film in her Instagram account on Tuesday, June 30,

"I didn't think I'd be shooting anything under lockdown but here we are!

"Thank you Direk Sam and Ella for casting me in this special project," Jasmine wrote in the caption.

This is the second time that Jasmine will be directed by Samantha Lee. They first worked together in an independent film titled Baka Bukas (2016).

"A story about longing." I didn't think I'd be shooting anything under lockdown but here we are! ☺ Thank you Direk Sam and Ella for casting me in this special project. Two separate worlds and timezones amidst all that is going on, LOVE IS LOVE and let us allow it to fuel us in these times and ALWAYS in all ways. 🌈 Directed by @givemesam ❣ Casted alongside @ellalentini DP @michellemkwong ❤ 🏳️‍🌈 #JCSfilm
