By Jansen Ramos

Despite what's happening right now, The Clash Season 1 finalist Garrett Bolden still thinks 2020 is a good year.

After winning the New Male Recording Artist of the Year at the 11th PMPC Star Awards for Music last January, Garrett received another recognition: a nomination in the 33rd Awit Awards.

He is among the five singers who vye for the Favorite Male Artist title in the People's Voice category. His The Clash batchmate Jong Madaliday is a also a nominee.

Garrett was nominated for the award because of his performance in the song, "Handa Na Maghintay," produced by GMA Music.

"Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala kasi last time nga sa Star Awards, sa PMPC, na I got nominated din, then I won, parang ngayon nasundan agad ng another nomination so sobrang nakakatuwa," Garrett said in an exclusive Zoom interview with GMANetwork.com recently.

The nominee with the most number of text votes will be chosen as the Favorite Male Artist. Voting period is until 12 noon of August 29.

People's Voice winners will be announced on the same day, along with the winners for the main award categories during the live online awarding ceremonies via Awit Awards's Facebook page.

Garrett also expressed his overflowing gratitude to all his fans and supporters, as well as to GMA Network, for believing in his talent since he joined The Clash.

Last February, he was christened with a new moniker: the "Kapuso Soul Balladeer."

The Filipino-African singer uttered, "I'd like to thank my fans kasi all these years na nagsimula ako sa GMA bilang Kapuso, parang my fans are always there kahit na alam kong we're not that much.

"I mean, my fan base is not as big as other fan base, kumbaga, kakasimula ko lang and they're always there for me and I can feel their support sa career ko.

"Tapos sa lahat din ng taong naniniwala, lalo na sa label ko sa GMA music for giving me songs they thought that can represent me and my craft, and my line of singing.

"And, of course, sa GMA for giving me this chance, 'cause I've been trying so hard to get into the industry to the point na akala ko everything is done na then came Kapuso, and then they give me this chance so sobrang thank you sa lahat ng naniwala at sumuporta sa 'kin."

Known as Olangapo's Tower of Power, Garrett was included in the top 5 finalists of the first season of The Clash.

He is part of the Sunday noon time show, All Out Sundays.
