Dalgona coffee cake is a hit with Winnie Monsod

By Marah Ruiz

Even New Normal: The Survival Guide' series Newsmakers host Winnie Monsod cannot escape trending quarantine food!

She was tasked to try out three most popular food fads and give her opinion on them.

"These quarantine foods came out online after the lockdown. They were chosen because they are mabiling mabili from the netizens," she explains.

The first one she tried is dalgona coffee cake, or a cake version of the whipped powdered coffee which took South Korea and the world by storm.

"Ang inspiration nito is Korean. It's quite good but it's too sweet," she says of the dish.

Next, she tried the ubiquitous ube cheese pandesal baked by Kapuso personality Love Añover.

"It's more cake than bread. Kakainin ko ba ito in the morning? No. I'll eat if after lunch or after dinner because sweet eh," she proclaims.

The last dish is sushi bake. As Tita Winnie doesn't eat sushi, she enlisted the help of her husband Atty. Christian Monsod who loves Japanese food.

"It's good but I like it more in a solid piece rather than chopped up," he says.

How Tita Winnie and Atty. Christian, who have been married for almost 60 years, rank these trending quarantine foods?
