Rhea Santos

From 'Unang Hirit' to Omni Television. Rhea Santos is back to deliver news via Omni News: Filipino Edition.

Rhea Santos lands a job in Canada reminiscent of her Unang Hirit days as one of the video journalists reporting and delivering news for Omni Television's all-Fillipino newscast.

Rhea Santos

Rhea bade farewell to her Unang Hirit family in July 2019 and, shortly after, left the Philippines to start a new life in Canada with her family. The former Kapuso host and reporter took up Broadcast and Online Journalism at the British Columbia Institute of Technology to earn additional education and training on how it is working behind the scenes of a TV production.

But it seems Rhea truly belongs to on-cam duty as she found herself among the Filipinos chosen to be the pioneer team for Omni News: Filipino Edition. She joins her kababayans in the newly-launched daily newscast in Filipino under the TV system and specialty channel, Omni Television.

Rhea shared about this development in her career via her Instagram posts.

She wrote, “Proud to be part of @rogerssportsandmedia that has shown a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. Ito ang tahanan ng mga kwento ng mga Pilipino at Filipino-Canadians at mga balitang mahalaga sa ating komunidad.”

Rhea also uploaded her photo in the newsroom, and said, “Marking this day that I'm able to do my passion to tell stories that matter to my 'kababayan' here in Canada. You will all meet the Filipino team of OMNI News in the coming days.

“It's not only Filipinos and Fil-Canadian journalists making this possible. A big part are the Canadians and people of diverse backgrounds whom I'm given the opportunity to work with that make OMNI News Filipino Edition happen.”
