'Sleepless' director Prime Cruz on working with Glaiza de Castro, Dominic Roco: 'They're the best'

By Bianca Geli

Director Prime Cruz recalled working with Glaiza de Castro and Dominic Roco for his 2015 film
Sleepless.

He told GMANetwork.com, "They're the best. They breathed life into Gem and Barry in a relaxed easy going way.

"Every time we rolled, it felt like I was just watching two people be themselves and talk, which was perfect for the material.

"Glaiza and Dom weren't acting. They were being the characters and it was super easy to shoot."

Direk Prime also revealed how effortless Glaiza and Dominic's acting looked that most scenes only took one shot.

"One take lang halos lahat ng eksena.

"They also did a lot of adlib for the film, switching between written lines and adlib dialogue with ease because they weren't thinking about what to do.

"They were just being Gem and Barry, talking and hanging out and that was beautiful," he said.

He also shared what inspired the story behind the film, "Sleepless was the product of a writing workshop with Director Jun Lana.

"It's my girlfriend Jen Chuaunsu's script and it got selected to to compete in the QCinema international film festival.

"Jen asked me to direct it because I've always wanted to be a director and it was the product of our life experiences, the wee hours in convenience stores, commuting from work, being stifled by the city, and feeling isolated in a jam packed city that never sleeps."

Prime Cruz also directed films Ang Mananaggal sa Unit 23B (2016), Kung Ang Ulan Ay Gawa sa Tsokolate (2016), Can We Still Be Friends (2017), at Isa Pa with Feelings (2019).

Catch Sleepless on Netflix starting this September 3.
