SHINee's Taemin makes a captivating comeback with 'Criminal'

By Cara Emmeline Garcia

The comeback of SHINee member Taemin has come.

On Monday, September 7, Taemin released his album “Never Gonna Dance Again: Act 1” alongside the music video of its title track “Criminal.”

“Criminal” is a synthwave track that likens one's attraction towards someone as Stockholm syndrome.

The music was composed by Lauren Aquilina, Chloe Latimer, Shae Jacob, SCORE, and MEGATONE, and the lyrics were written by danke.

An hour after its release, Taemin held a V Live broadcast to talk about his solo comeback after a year and seven months.

He said, “I gave a lot of my opinions on various aspects of this album including the songs, the visuals, the music video, and so much more.

“As for the 'Criminal,' I tried changing up my voice with adlibs in the last chorus. It's the part that I recorded while thinking a lot about how I could make it sound more refreshing [to the ears].”

Taemin continued to explain the key parts of the music video including having his hands tied in the beginning.

He said, “That's how I expressed the idea of a 'criminal.' I wanted to portray a story well in the music video and I wanted to create my world view.”

Support from SHINee members
During his broadcast, SHINee member Minho, who is currently in the military, entered the live stream to support his members' comeback.

From the beginning of the live stream, many fans took notice of his comments such as “Wow, Taemin is doing a live [broadcast],” “I hope Taemin's 'Criminal' does well,” and “Taemin, have a good broadcast. I have to return my phone now. I hope this album does well! Stay healthy and strong!”

To top it off, he also sent a food truck to Taemin to show support for his album.
