Singer Demi Lovato and actor Max Ehrich are calling it quits in their relationship.

A source tells PEOPLE that Demi and Max have announced their decision to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers.

“They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together,” the source was quoted as saying.

On his Instagram Story, Max revealed that he only learned about his split with Demi through the media.

He wrote, “Imagine finding out about the status of your relationship through a tabloid.

“While you're in the middle of filming a biopic movie about a Pastor in a Christian Church whose intention of the film is to help people.”

He posted a similar message on his main Instagram feed with a caption that read, “Jesus loves you.”

The split came two months after Max proposed to Demi in Malibu on July 22. They began dating in March.

At the time, Demi said Max made her feel the “best version of herself” and added, “I knew I loved you the moment I met you.”

Max surprised Demi with an emerald-cut diamond engagement ring that was estimated to be worth roughly $500,000 to $1 million.

The two have since removed each other's photographs from their respective social media accounts.
