Kapuso Primetime Queen now a theater actress? Yes, indeed!

Actress Marian Rivera is making her theater debut, albeit virtually, in the upcoming production of Tanghalang Ateneo's Oedipus Rex.

The news was confirmed by her castmates Yan Yuzon and Katski Flores in their respective social media accounts after uploading a photo of their recent ZOOM Meeting.

Actor Yan Yuzon said, “I haven't acted in a play in 14 years. So yes, I am anxious, ecstatic, thrilled, and all those other feelings."

“Sharing the stage with one of our country's greatest film and television actors in Marian Rivera-Dantes, making her first-ever steps 'onstage' --- in one of the greatest tragedies ever told, no less, from about 500 years before, um, Jesus --- but to be a student with her and everyone else on this squad trying to learn how we might be able to bring the theater to the people in the midst of a great pandemic.”

Other actors include Miren Alvarez-Fabregas, Gabe Mercado, and Marlon Rivera.

The virtual play titled "password: 03d1pu5_R3x" will be directed by actor, writer, and Ateneo teacher Ron Capinding.

Oedipus Rex is an Athenian tragedy written by Sophocles around 400 BC.

It tells the story of King Oedipus of Thebes, who is fated to kill his father and marry his mother. When he accidentally fulfills the prophecy he brings disaster to his city and his family.
