Directed by Milo Sogueco, Mariquina tells the story of Imelda, both portrayed by Mylene Dizon and Barbie Forteza, the daughter of a shoemaker from Marikina. Unlike the former Philippine first lady of the same name, Imelda is indifferent towards shoes brought about by her difficult relationship with her father, Romeo (Ricky Davao).

The film explores both her childhood memories and adult years where she deals with grief upon her father's passing.

It was in Mariquina where Barbie truly staked her claim as a formidable actress when she bagged the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 10th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival awards night.
