Netflix's 'Kingdom' confirms 'sidequel' episode for Ashin's backstory

Streaming giant Netflix has confirmed that a special episode of its popular South Korean zombie series Kingdom will be airing 2021!

On Monday, November 2, the company announced that a side sequel or 'sidequel' is in the works titled Kingdom: Ashin of the North, which will star South Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun.

The upcoming episode will provide a backstory to the character of Ashin, who Crown Prince Lee Chang (played by Ju Ji-hoon) encounters in the last episode of Season 2's Kingdom. Furthermore, it will also show how Ashin is connected with Royal Commandery Min Chi-rok (played by Park Byung-eun).

“Still wondering who that mysterious lady was at the end of 'Kingdom' season 2? Find out in 'Kingdom: Ashin of The North,' a special episode arriving 2021,” it said.

The upcoming episode will also mark the return of director Kim Seong-hun, who brought the first two seasons to life, with scriptwriter Kim Eun-hee.

Aside from Ashin's backstory, the said episode will cover the origins of the resurrection plant and the secrets behind the infected.
