'Black Panther' Chadwick Boseman to receive posthumous tribute at Gotham Awards

By Bianca Geli

Hollywood actor Chadwick Boseman will be honored with a posthumous actor's tribute at Gotham Independent Film Awards. Chadwick will be awarded along with co-star Viola Davis, for his last film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, according to Variety.

This is a first for the Gotham Awards, since Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is the first movie to have an actor and actress win a tribute from the award-giving body.

Chadwick's performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom has also earned him a nomination in the Best Actor category for this year's awards. He was also commemorated by Marvel Studios earlier this month by changing the studio's logo animation in the opening of Black Panther on Disney+ featuring images of Chadwick.

Entertainment Weekly also recently awarded Chadwick as Entertainment of the Year for 2020.

Chadwick played the lead superhero in Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He was also known for his previous appearances in 42, Message from the King, and 21 Bridges. He passed away from complications related to colon cancer on August 28, 2020.
